16 Triangle events to check out this week

RALEIGH, N.C. — Our fun picks will help you get through the work week.

Get ready to leave your comfort zone, because Flash Chorus is an event where even the shyest singer can be part of a rocking ad hoc chorus. All ages can show up to Durham's Motorco Music Hall to sing some of the best indie, retro and contemporary pop songs of all time while conductor Seamus Kenney fine tunes the performances and records a music video for each song.

Then it's Trivia Night at King's in North Hills.

Start your work week off in a tasty way by attending the 2016 North Carolina Chef Showdown, a fast-paced evening at 214 Martin Street featuring cuisine from local chefs, tastings of the finest spirits, wine and beer and lots of fun. You'll get to watch as chefs compete for a chance to find out who will be the NCRLA's Chef of the Year and Pastry Chef of the Year.

Love beer? Join Provenance and Neuse River Brewing Company for a four-course beer dinner and cocktail reception. Tickets are $65 a person, and a portion of proceeds will go to charity.

It's also Open Mic Night at Deep South, so stop by to support local musicians.

The Raleigh Downtown Farmers Market continues today in City Plaza from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Can't wait for Comicon? The organizers behind the event are celebrating early by premiering an original documentary film, NC Comicon: The Movie, at 8 p.m. at the Carolina Theatre in downtown Durham. The film givers a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to bring Comicon to life every year. Tickets are $5 and include admission to an after-party.

Join Hibernian Irish Pub at 6:30 p.m. on their roof in downtown Raleigh for a five-course whiskey dinner featuring Irish whiskies and specially-prepared dishes.

Your beer just got a little cuter. Stop by Lynnwood Brewing Concern (off Glenwood Avenue) from 5 until 11 p.m. to taste their new "blonde movement" beer infused with gummy bears.

The Eyes Up Here Comedy Showcase at Neptune's in downtown Raleigh features a group of hilarious women. Doors open at 8 p.m. for the show. Tickets are $5.

Hip hop fans might enjoy Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, a group of rappers from Ohio. Tickets are $25 for their 8:30 p.m. show at The Ritz.

Three bands will perform live in downtown Raleigh as part of the Oak City 7 concert series. Performances start at 5 p.m. and continue until 10:30 p.m.

Enjoy a night of soul, pop, R&B, jazz and blues music at Kings in downtown Raleigh as Drique London performs live with Chelsea Shag.

Visit downtown Raleigh's Local Color Gallery for The Color of Hope, a special art show featuring works by 12 local women. 25 percent of all sales will be donated with the purpose of benefiting The Foundation of Hope Research & Treatment of Mental Illness.

Country superstar Luke Bryan will perform with Dustin Lynch at the Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek at 7 p.m.

Laugh along with Alex Thomas Jr., an actor and stand-up comedian, at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium at 7:45 p.m.
