WILSON'S MILLS — A 12-year-old suffered a gunshot wound while fishing with an adult and other children at a pond in Wilson's Mills Sunday night.

The group was fishing off Uzzle Pond Road when they heard gunshots from a wooded area at about 7 p.m., authorities said.

No one in the group could tell how far away the shooter was, authorities said.

The 12-year-old, whose name wasn't released, was shot in the arm and transported to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Investigators were combing the area Sunday night, searching for the shooter.

The bullet that hit the boy was not from a BB gun, authorities said, but they could not say what type of gun was used.

The incident was being investigated as an accidental shooting, authorities said.
