FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — An 11-year-old Hope Mills boy died Sunday after being injured in an all-terrain vehicle accident, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Ayed Alsaiti was riding an ATV when the driver lost control and crashed at 6501 Lake Barbour Road in Fayetteville, said Debbie Tanna, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.

Tanna said the driver was also a child, but she did not know how old he or she was.

Alsaiti, who was at the home visiting friends, was not wearing a helmet, Tanna said.

He died around 7:30 p.m. at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The death is the second in as many months in the Cape Fear region in which a child has died in an ATV wreck.

MacKinley Waters, 13, of Dunn, died Sept. 16 when he was thrown from an ATV in Sampson County. The case remains under investigation.
