BAILEY, N.C. — One hundred students were absent from Bailey Elementary School in Nash County Monday and Tuesday, a spokeswoman said. The school has a total student body of 671.

Lisa Renfrow, preparedness coordinator with the Nash County Health Department, said the school followed the proper escalation procedure for mass absences. When a large number of students are sick, local school nurses contact the district, which reports to the county health department.

Renfrow said some of the students had flu-like symptoms. The health department was providing information about the H1N1 virus and the seasonal flu to be sent home to the entire student body.
