Posted — UpdatedNASH COUNTY, N.C. — Rocky Mount police say a 10-year-old boy who died Monday morning was not the victim of an assault.
Police said they were looking at whether the child's death was suspicious. Officers received a report Saturday afternoon of an alleged assault.
The boy, identified Wednesday as Daekwon Brodie, was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to Pitt Memorial Hospital, where he died.
"Subsequent investigation has determined that no assault had occurred; therefore, no further investigation of this matter is warranted," the police department said in a statement.
The department declined to comment further on the case.
