RALEIGH, N.C. — A woman was killed Monday in an accident that blocked three lanes of the Inner Beltline, Interstate 440, between Poole Road and the split with Interstate 40.

Raleigh police said driver Kelly Dumas swerved to avoid tire tread in the road and slammed into a concrete barrier. Dumas, 33, was partially ejected from the vehicle and died. Police said she was not wearing a seat belt. Another unnamed passenger was taken to WakeMed.

The leftmost lanes of the Inner Beltline were closed, and traffic was rerouted to the right shoulder of the road. Major traffic back-ups were reported to Exit 13.

All lanes reopened around 7:30 p.m. Monday.
