DURHAM, N.C. —

One person was killed and four others were injured Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle wreck that shut down part of a Durham roadway.

Kammie Michael, a spokeswoman for the Durham Police Department, said the wreck happened shortly after 2:15 p.m. on North Roxboro Road near Macwood Drive.

Michael said a northbound Kia Optima, driven by Amy Michelle Stone, 34, of Hurdle Mills, apparently drifted across the center line into the southbound lanes, colliding head-on with a Ford F-350 truck.

Stone died at the scene, and the driver of the Ford, Eric Pendergrass, 18, and three of his passengers were taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

Michael said charges haven't been filed.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of North Roxboro Road were closed in the area for about four hours.
