'Longest Night' returns to Morehead Planetarium

The show, made in collaboration with Paperhand Puppet Intervention, is a 'timeless fable of courage, generosity and renewal.' Best for ages 7 and up.

Morehead Planetarium and Science Center's fulldome planetarium show "The Longest Night: A Winter's Tale" has returned to the Chapel Hill destination's schedule.

The show, made in collaboration with Paperhand Puppet Intervention, is a "timeless fable of courage, generosity and renewal. Its story explores the concept that winter is a time for Earth to rest, waiting for new growth in the spring. Its star, a young girl born into a family of nomadic storytellers, embarks on a simple quest that leads her to a dragon's nest," according to Morehead's website. The show combines live-action video of Paperhand's puppets with fulldome animation.

It will remain on the schedule through Feb. 23. Showtimes are 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Saturday, and 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., Sunday. Tickets to Morehead's shows are $7.25 for adults and $6 for kids, seniors and students.

Morehead's website has a very helpful recommendation on the best ages for this show: "Recommended for ages 7 and older. Younger children will enjoy much of 'The Longest Night' but might become frightened during the lead character's journey through the woods and first encounter with the dragon."
