'Frozen,' 'Big Hero 6' among flicks on art museum's summer series

As usual, the N.C. Museum of Art's summer movie series will include some family-friendly options this summer.

As usual, the N.C. Museum of Art's summer movie series will include some family-friendly options this summer.

The series begins May 30 and runs on select days through mid-September. These are outdoor movies, so be sure to note the late start times. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnics are welcome at the screenings. Popcorn, candy, wine and beer can be purchased on site. Tickets to the movies are $5. Kids 6 and under are free.

Here's the list of the more family-friendly selections. The museum's website has the full schedule, which includes "Selma," "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Jaws," "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "The Imitation Game," among others.

9 p.m., June 6, "Frozen," the sing-along version. (PG)

9 p.m., July 10, "How to Train Your Dragon 2" (PG)

9 p.m., Aug. 1, "The Book of Life" (PG)

9 p.m., Aug. 7, "Big Hero 6" (PG)

8 p.m., Sept. 19, "The Sound of Music" (G)

The museum also offers a summer concert series. The schedule includes annual family favorite Paperhand Puppet Intervention, which will put on three kid-friendly shows Sept. 11 to Sept. 13 at the museum. Tickets are $17.

Koka Booth Amphitheatre and downtown Raleigh also have summer movie series.
