HENDERSON, N.C. — A man accused of stealing $81 worth of deodorant led Henderson police on a 2-mile chase Thursday afternoon.
Police found up to 15 sticks of Degree deodorant in the driver's side floorboard of Stanley Wayne Kelly's 1993 Pontiac Grand Am.
Kelly, 51, of 509 Hickory St., was arrested and charged with speeding to elude police, misdemeanor larceny, driving while license revoked and fictitious license tags.
Police said Kelly allegedly walked through a checkout line at a Henderson Food Lion without paying for the merchandise.
Kelly's 1-year-old stepson was in the front passenger seat and had not been sitting in a safety seat or wearing a seat belt. Kelly was also charged with one count of child endangerment.
The pursuit reached speeds of about 60 mph in a 45 mph zone, police said.
Kelly was in the Vance County jail Friday afternoon under a $5,000 bond.
