LUCAMA, N.C. — Wilson County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Kenly man Tuesday night for assaulting two people who owed him money. More arrests could be possible.

Just after 10 p.m., deputies responded to 7458 Oscar Loop Road, outside Lucama, and found Jonathan Mattox with head wounds from a blunt instrument. Karen Mattox also had a head injury, deputies said.

Deputies arrested 18-year-old Travis Wayne West, of 212 Langley Daniel Road in Kenly, and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury.

Deputies took West to the Wilson County Jail where he was held under a $10,000 bond.

The assault happened because the victims owed West money, deputies said. Authorities were working to identify other people possibly involved in the assault.

Jonathan Mattox was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital with a serious head wound. His condition was unknown. Karen Mattox was treated and released from Wilson Memorial Hospital.
